Most people don’t fail because they lack ambition

They fail because they’re carrying too much.

I watched a man at the airport wrestling with an overpacked suitcase.

He pushed. He leaned. He even sat on it.

Nothing worked. Eventually, he unzipped the case…

…took two things out…

…and it closed effortlessly.

It struck me that goals work the same way.

We spend our lives trying to squeeze one more thing in.

We rarely stop to ask: Has this goal earned its weight?

These are my 3️⃣ tidbits on goal setting:

1️⃣ Every goal has a cost

Not just money.

Attention.

Energy.

Time.

Every “yes” asks you to make a trade-off.

2️⃣ The problem usually isn’t discipline

It’s capacity.

Just like a suitcase when you are trying to board a plane.

Every goal has a weight. The people who achieve the most are not the ones who carry the most. They are the ones who carry what matters most.

3️⃣ The best goals earn their weight.

I’ve spent months developing a goal setting framework called:

C.A.R.R.Y™: Carry fewer goals. Carry what matters most.

It’s based on research on human behaviour and motivation together with lessons I’ve learned leading teams, mentoring professionals and coaching executives synthesising this into a simple framework people can actually use.
