You ever been at a networking event…

You ever been at a networking event…

Everyone’s in little groups, chatting away.

And you’re standing alone, scrolling your phone, pretending it’s an important work email.

But it’s not.

It’s your third article reading about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement. 💍

Because let’s be honest: sometimes it feels easier to hide in your phone than to walk up to a stranger.

I still have to hype myself up before these things.
But here’s what I’ve learned:

👉 Networking isn’t about being liked.
👉 It’s about being useful.

Here are my 3️⃣ tidbits that turned networking from awkward to meaningful:

1️⃣ Curiosity leads to connection

The scariest part isn’t the conversation, it’s the approach.

👉 Smile. Walk over. Ask something simple like:

How did you hear about this?
What are you excited about this year?
What’s your biggest challenge right now?

Once you have started momentum does the rest. Then, when you listen deeply, curiosity turns into connection.

2️⃣ Give before you get

Networking isn’t about collecting business cards. It’s about adding value in the moment.

➡️ Share a tip, perspective, or resource.
➡️ Offer your expertise or connect them to someone you trust.

Generosity builds trust faster than self-promotion ever will.

3️⃣ Turn the spark into a flame

Curiosity opens the door. Generosity builds trust.
But without follow-through, the spark is gone.

The flame comes after the event:

➡️ Send a personalised note that proves you listened.
➡️ Circle back weeks later with something useful for them.

Because connection isn’t built from one conversation, it’s built in the moments after.
