The Right Mountain at the Right Time

A couple of weeks ago, my son and I hit the slopes.

One of those bluebird mornings where you just think, why not?

He’s still learning, so we started small. After a few runs, he pointed at the big mountain.

“Can we try that one next?”

He’d earned some confidence, but not yet control.

“Not yet, mate,” I said. “Let’s get a few more runs in first.”

Minutes later, he caught an edge, tumbled, popped back up, brushed off the snow and smiled.

“Guess you were right.”

That moment stuck.

Because sometimes you’re not behind — you’re right where you need to be.

Not waiting. Not settling. Getting stronger in the quiet.

These are my 3️⃣ tidbits to think about:

1. Every Run Builds Balance

The small slopes are where you find your footing.

Each run steadies the legs.

Each fall teaches control.

Progress hides in the repetition, the quiet work no one sees.

2. Don’t Make Comfort Your Home

The lodge is warm, but the view never changes.

Rest. Reset. Then clip back in. Comfort feels safe until it starts to steal your edge. Step out before it does.

3. Courage is the Lift to the Next Mountain

At the top, there’s always a pause, a breath before the drop. Courage is what pushes you forward. Not the absence of fear.

If you’re on the smaller slope right now, that’s OK.

Enjoy the run you’re on. And when the next mountain calls, look up, smile and ride toward it with courage.
